Agreed, my entire family is from south STL. So it was common for me to hear:

- warsh (wash)
- zink (sink)
- farty (forty)
- ruint (ruined)

There are others but I can't think of them right now. I realized it was an accent when we moved the the St. Charles area and other kids looked at me funny. So, I stopped talking that way, I remember having to try to say wash correctly for awhile.

Now my parents live out here in OC and still talk like that, though not as pronounced, but still noticeable. They get some funny looks at times, especially my dad.

However, every once in awhile someone out here will hear him say a key word and reply, "Whered you go to HS?"

Special code.

Let's not forget flat out adding r's where they don't belong: "Wertherman says we may get some ternaders"

That might just be in my neck of the woods though.
