Of course they CAN make it back but are not very likely to.
Even if you're the best team in the country it's difficult to make the championship game. The odds are always more likely you won't than you will.
The SEC is basically assured of a playoff spot. If Auburn manages to win the SEC (tall order) they'll make the playoffs, but now you have to win a game against a top 4 opponent to make the NCG, which makes it that much harder.
