Potentially yes, but to think the next guy is not going to miss a beat after spurrier isn't a given. UT had better history, tradition, fan support, etc. when Fulmer left but they've gone 5 years now either being mediocre or downright atrocious. The pieces may be in place, but none of that matters if you don't have the right guy.

The two things that USC has that UTK didn't/doesn't are strong, competent leadership and a population that produces football players. UTK had tradition, but we've seen that tradition can get trumped by leadership. And I wouldn't argue that UTK had better fan support. They have a bigger stadium, yes, but USC's fan support takes a backseat to no one.

Having to rely solely on out-of-state kids to support your program can create a lot of instability if things go wrong. USC certainly supplements with the GA/FL/NC kids, but the heart of those teams the last few years were all home-grown, with the (notable) exception of Shaw.

Plus, I specifically mentioned that USC can't withstand a shitty hire. I never said that they aren't going to miss a beat, just that they're in good position.

Points about leadership are right. Hamilton was a nightmare.

Bull we don't have in state talent. That may have been the case in the past, but times are changing. We pulled nine of the top 11 kids from Tenn this year, including 2 five stars . Here's a distribution of football recruits from 08 to 13, Tennessee actually edges out sc in this time period.

Besides, ut has always relied on out of state recruiting. Its never been a problem for us except under dooley. Its why we consistently spend more money on recruiting more than any other school. Last year, We locked down our state, and also pulled kids from 10 other ones, and endedup with a top 5 class after going 5-7 three years previously. Recruiting is not a problem for us.

As for fan support being equal,i disagree. You don't have a 100k+ stadium unless you have a huge following.and you don't continue to rank top 10 in attendance(with an avg attendance more than yours can hold BTW) with multiple losing seasons unless you have tremendous fan support. Additionally, our consistently challenging and widespread ooc schedule, coupled with the aforementioned national recruiting, along with our prominence in the 90s when only the best games got televized has turned ut into a national brand. It was stronger 10 years ago, but its still there. You will find ut fans all across the country. Not so much with sc fans.

Didn't we beat you last year?
