How would your State fare as an independent nation?

Doing research on the downfall of the Soviet Union and was surprised that with all the former Soviet Republics, none of them banded together following the collapse. Even the smaller ones. So unions with other states are prohibited in this "what if"
So how would your U.S. state function as a sovereign state?

Apart from the obvious success that would be the country of Texas, looking at other SEC states I think Florida would fare well on its own if it were to secede.

See "Republic of Congo" for reference.

it would depend on scenario. If no country is going to invade us then it is likely a lot of states would do fairly well. The dregs of society that take up welfare would likely be pushed out of the state or die if it was to become its own nation. I think LA could do ok based off that and we have deep water ports

SC was (briefly) it's own nation, so ok, I guess, but not really.

Without the U.S. government subsidizing most of the states in the South, they would fall into a deep poverty and all would be considered third world countries.
As for Arkansas, we would start eating more rice because we can grow enough to feed everyone in the state.

We would be the Saudi Arabia of the Americas

Poorly, I'm sure. The only question is how poorly, and I have no clue.

I think SC and Texas would be fine, both have pretty much done it already.

Georgia would definitely be better off without federal government interference.

Alabama would not fare too well. Our unemployment would skyrocket to around 50%, there'd be riots in the streets.

Generally speaking people far overestimate the benefits of having a gigantically sized nation.
By having lots of smaller nations we could more accurately reflect the culture and will of the people in these areas and thus most of these states will be perfectly fine.
Did Europe fall into the sea after Rome fell? Nope, it actually exceeded Rome in the following centuries.

I would band with the SEC states (sans Missouri, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Georgia)
We would control the gulf and oil.
I only let Tenn And Ken in because of booze.

California, Texas, Louisiana, and Florida would be alright. The rest of you Bozo's would be toast.

Terribly. I'd give Alabama 5 years before falling to a theocratic totalitarian dictator

We'd give Tucson back to Mexico.
