There is also the issue of scalpers, who only exist because the tickets are cheaper than what people are willing to pay. To remedy this, they increased the price so that people wanting tickets would be inclined to buy them through official channels.

This isn't quite true. As far as Alabama football is concerned, ordinary fans outside of Tide Pride have no access to tickets through official channels. That's why there are scalpers. When was the last time an average fan on the street, without connections, was able to buy a ticket to the Iron Bowl? Probably when Ears Whitworth was the coach. Hell, when I was in high school in the seventies I used to go stand in line down at the Municipal Auditorium to buy tickets from the allotment given to the City of Birmingham Parks and Recreation to sell. Bought tickets to see Tennessee and LSU...but Auburn was never available. Sent off for ticket order forms from the University...the Auburn game was always unavailable.

Scalpers exist because that's the only way for someone not in the club to buy tickets...at any price.
