We do have a lot of rivers to float. Most of them are gigantic floating parties on the weekends...which was fun when I was younger. Any recommendations for a more peaceful weekend float, possibly with some fishing and gravel bar camping to be had?

just the more well known ones are floating parties. They've practically ruined the current as for fishing.

But the black, big piney, niangua, north fork, eleven point, and even portions of the current would have what you are looking for.

Jacks Fork. Hands down best float in the state. Not too crowded even on the weekends.

ETA: we go on a 4-5 day float from Monday to Friday each year down most of the river and most of the time don't see anyone until late Friday as we get closer.

Honestly...the Missouri River between Glasgow and Jefferson City is an incredibly beautiful float. Plenty of amazing sandbars to camp on. Very scenic. I highly recommend!

If you're too afraid to float the Missouri River (and you shouldn't be), then I recommend the Big Sugar or sections of the Jacks Fork, especially the latter.
