Sweet pup, I have a Lab/Red Tick coonhound mix as well.
fricker didn't start barking till he was a year old, new neighbor dogs influence. He still isn't much of a barker, however when he's excited or wants something he does this wookie call/whine thing thats long and drawn out.

I have feeling he will be the same. He's whined a little. No howling yet though.
