Being a seventh rounder the odds are against him, but knowing the firestorm that would come with his release will the Rams dare cut him if he doesn't work out? I say no.

Sure, they will cut him if he isn't good enough to make the team. NFL rosters are much different than college rosters. Every single player must contribute on a 53 man roster. Do the math. It's crazy how paper thin an NFL roster is.

This is why Bama didn't hire Sylvester Croom. Hiring isn't the problem, firing is. The Gaystapo will be all up in their grill if they fire Sam. See what happened to the Firefox CEO when he donated a couple grand to the pro 1 man 1 woman movement in California (at a time when Obama SAID he was also for that). Yes, fascism is on the rise in the U.S.

My hope is that he is managed like any other player. The day we stop categorizing people is the day we will have arrived as a society. IMHO Sam should have said nothing about his sexuality. It's outside the scope of what matters relative to his job in the NFL. He just put more pressure on him self by focusing on himself. He was already at a disadvantage with his combination of size/speed somewhere between a DE and a LB. Sports are about your contribution to the team, not about self. I hope he has a successful career but he has definitely not helped his chances.

I read that his jerseys are outselling Clowney's. They aren't cutting him no time soon

If Sam really wants a shot in the NFL he's going to have to tell the media and Gay rights activists to frick off. He's not talented enough for teams to be willing to deal with that shite storm.

ETA: The reality show he is supposedly doing is a perfect example. What front office is going to be willing to deal with that kind of distraction from a 7th round pick who's almost exclusively a ST player.

They're a fricking NFL team, a multi-million dollar business. If Sam isn't good enough to make the final roster, then yes they will cut him and not think twice.

I hope that he makes the Rams, and then within a year publicly renounces homosexuality and claims through Christ he has become a straight man. That would be some good TV.

Not cutting him, when he doesn't have the physical tools to keep up with the speed of the NFL, simply because he's gay is just as deplorable as cutting him just because he's gay (or drafting/not drafting him because he's gay, for that matter). As long as he is judged on his performance then it won't matter what he does in his free time.

Yes, if he doesn't make the team, they will cut him. This isn't politics, it's about performance.

Of course. If the Rams felt they would be put in a position where they couldn't cut him they wouldn't have drafted him in the first place.
