It's an SEC rule? Always thought it was an NCAA rule. Do other conferences sell beer? Only OOC venue I've been to that wasn't in a pro stadium has been Clemson and Memphis (Liberty Bowl) and I don't recall either selling beer.

It's sold at most bowl games so it's probably not a NCAA rule.

Wisconsin is only on campus stadium selling beer. Or at one time it was the only one.

It is a rule by conference and venue. So if it is an SEC event they don't sell but if you play a neutral site they may as long as the said site is not all SEC schools. Personally I am not a fan of selling any booze at sporting events as it seems to promote fights and people always seem to spill it on you.
With the money to be had it will probably happen in the SEC and it will be a sad day indeed. With the crazy fans in the conference already why throw gas on the fire. In a perfect world if it does come, they should at least limit sales or cut it off at halftime so folks can sober up to drive home. No matter what they should NEVER sell wine and if they did go to beer sales it would actually be cool if the prices were reasonable and it was a local brewery selling local product.
I think the past was not so much a gentleman's agreement as the cost of the insurance and the liability issues. Some drunk kid going over the side at a ball game would be a pretty ugly lawsuit, especially if they wound up being underage and bought beer from a state sponsored school. Huge PR disaster that is perceived to be acting in place of the parents when kids go off to school.

No. West Virginia sold it last year and I think Texas is going to start this year.
