AJ got drafted because they didn't have anyone pushing Dalton. With Campbell and McCarron there to push Dalton, it's basically the front office saying, "You're not the starter simply by default."
McCarron will have a chance to play, of course, but it feels more like they are pushing their main guy to step up in the post season. Being 0-3 in the post season after three strong regular seasons is what is getting frustrating.
It didn't help that in the last playoff game, Dalton was responsible for three turnovers (2 INT and a fumble).
Dalton's biggest threat isn't his backups, but himself. If he fails to reach consistency, then McCarron or Campbell could easily come in. If the Bengals see enough promise in AJ, then yes, he could become their starter and have many years in the league.
