A lot of it probably has to do with being an average player and has had several issues with the law. Being average and a pain in the arse usually ends poorly.

I think that quarterbacks being basically off limits in the NFL has hurt Fairley's game. His MO,much like N.Suh,is intimidation.
They both are like hockey goons, but you cannot goon it up in the league anymore. Response thread? Sure is. When you dish it out be big enough to take the return fire.
