It's just the mentality of the younger fanbase who knows only about the Steve Spurrier years and think the successes that Spurrier had at Florida somehow extends to USC, and therefore began posting and acting like USC was winning all those SECTs, back when we were going 7-6 every year. They are too young to appreciate where USC has been and how far we had/have to go to get to where we want to be....

People talk all the time about how Cockytalk has changed for the worse from what it used to be as a fan forum for Gamecock sports. It's about 90% having to do with the mentality that you posted above, from the newer, younger posters who didn't bother with Gamecock msg boards back when USC sports were struggling more, but showed up by the truckloads after Spurrier was hired acting like we're now contending for national titles.

It's OK to have an opinion, and to express that opinion. Everyone has that right, but not on someone else's dime. That's always the bottom line whether one likes it or not.

The admins have done this for a long time. Try to post your thoughts to Chicken here and see what response you get from him: The vent threads on Cockytalk. Venting is not discussion - those are two entirely different animals. The admins there couldn't begin to tell you how someone posts a thread to calmly DISCUSS negative concerns about the team(s) in the weeks after bad losses, that themselves turn into vent threads because the emotions are still raw for many posters, or the discussion topics keep the scabs torn off the wounds, keep windows open for MORE venting. Just not in the vent thread(s).

So then the football forum turns into shite, with a ton of threads started for discussion purposes that end up deleted or locked, full of repetitive vent posts and bash posts that had already been posted a dozen times in the vent thread. Which tears up the forum and makes it uninviting for posters to visit. Which is why the admins there try to keep the ranting and venting to one thread.

Used to be, the posters that made up Cockytalk wouldn't have an issue with it - even the mad, frustrated posters: they'd just keep their frustrations to the vent thread, vent them, and move on. They would remain hopeful about the team and stay civil in other threads. The board would stay pleasant and inviting to other Gamecock fans to post. It would be a nice little community, which is mostly what the old-timers that post there miss about it. But now there is a ton of posters who feel they own the site and should be allowed to dictate to the site owners how posting should be allowed. And they blow up the forums if given the slightest chance, turning the board into shite. And they could give a frick about doing it. It's not like THEY invested in it, or spent money on it. But they still deserve the RIGHT to do as they feel on it.

It just don't ever work that way, until you start paying the bills. Sorry. And you can email Chicken, email ANY owner/admin of ANY popular messageboard/forum for sports who pays the bills and does the work to maintain the boards, and ask them. They will ALL tell exactly what I just did...

The mentality of wanting to criticize the team, players or coaches on a message board dedicated to posting about them??

I joined Cockytalk in the summer of 2005. While there is exponentially more shitposting now than there was then it is not because all of the new posters are from a generation that only knew the Spurrier era.

Venting is usually a part of a discussion that is criticizing a sports team, especially on the internet. Expecting to open one thread for venting and keeping it there is ridiculous

Seems way more uninviting to me to ban posters that refuse to shite rainbows and burp butterflies.

I'm mean what is more uninviting than a ban for not posting something less than positive in the vent thread?

I never said that the owner doesn't have a right to patrol his board as they want.

But this seems like an indication the board is run poorly and refuses to acknowledge a large segment of its posters.
