Tennessee is one of four programs prominently in the mix to add plug-and-play guard Jon Octeus from Colorado State, multiple sources close to Octeus' recruitment told govols247 on Wednesday.
Octeus, a 6-foot-4 combo guard who will be eligible to play this season, averaged 13.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists last season.
According to both sources, Octeus is initially focusing on four programs ? Tennessee, UCLA, Baylor and Cincinnati.
One source told govols247 that Octeus would "almost certainly" start as Tennessee's point guard this season if he chose the Vols.
Tennessee has one spot available after senior center Rawane Ndiaye tore an ACL and was placed on a medical scholarship.

As for the 2015 class, it’s been a quieter week on that front, but we did pick up at least one interesting note: The Vols feel like they’re more in the mix with Memphis-area five-star power forward Skal Labissiere than most are acknowledging.

Now, to be clear, we still believe Labissiere has Memphis or Kentucky written all over him, but the Vols feel like they’ll at least get a spot at the final table there. And who knows what could happen at that point? It should go without saying at this point, but obviously Labissiere — the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2015 247Composite — is at or near the very top of Tennessee’s wish list, alongside players like Jawun Evans, Jaylen Brown, Kerry Blackshear, Dwayne Bacon, Jalen Adams and Malik Beasley.

Speaking of Bacon, the Vols seem to feel confident about that situation at the moment. Florida State is the runaway leader in Bacon’s Crystal Ball at nearly 80 percent, but the Vols have worked really hard and gotten the picture with him going into the big July evaluation period.
