Watching a rerun of SEC Storied on Abby Wambach got me thinking about which other sec players are considered the best ever.

- Abby Wambach (from UF) is the greatest women's soccer player in the world. Better than all of the Brazilians, Mia Hamm, etc. I know most on here don't care, but that's a pretty awesome accomplishment for UF & tSEC to claim.

- While there isn't a unanimous GOAT in football, I consider Peyton Manning the best QB in nfl history.

- Emmitt Smith is the all-time leading rusher in nfl history.

- Shaq is the best center and most dominant player in NBA history (imo).

- Ryan Lochte has the 2nd most olympic medals in swimming all-time, behind some guy named Michael Phelps.

Which other SEC athletes belong in this elite group....I don't care which sport it is either (except quidditch LSU)

Eta: and this is strictly speaking on a professional level. So Tim Tebow does not qualify for this thread, as he is only the greatest college football player of all-time.

Not this guy.

Honestly, the only person on your list who is even arguably the GOAT in their sport is Wambach, though I would still take Hamm.

Peak shaq is probably the greatest center of all time, but if we consider actual level of play throughout their entire career? Give me Kareem

I agree with Shaq being the most dominate. I would also add Pistol in as the most talented basketball player. I would not call him the best player though.
Eta: didn't read the edit, but I will still keep Pistol up there.
Extremely talented, just not really a team player, from what I have heard.

There aren't any unless you include coaches. Bear Bryant.

No players are really the greatest of all time for a sport.

Lochte > Phelps. Medal count aside lochte is a better swimmer than Phelps. Who has the world record in both IMs? Lochte. I think he's a d-bag, poor rep for my sport, but sadly best to touch the water thus far
