I think a few things are likely.
It's a current coach.
The salary is bigger than normal.
It's a current coach because we still know nothing even after the BOC has met. (Assuming they approved. The meeting wasn't too long, so it looks like a rubber stamp meeting. Haith's contract with the BOC took two hours.)
To be sure, Alden wanted approval of the big number from the BOC before finalizing everything with the candidate. Now the candidate can control the news on his end.
There are other Scenarios that would fit, but that makes sense.

You know, I don't know what makes sense, because we have no clue where we really even are in this process.
Early in the week I was saying with all the happenings at Missouri lately and the awful results of the last coaching search Alden could literally be going to them with candidates to get pre-approval (due to reputations or salary amount) and narrowing it down from there or any number of things.
