quote:

"I think the reality for us is A&M made a choice they felt was best for them to move to the SEC. That's great for them. They've leverage that well...For us there has to be a real business or branding case made to play anybody that we play with our football games given the way our schedule is structured playing Oklahoma every year in Dallas...Unless there really is a compelling business or branding reason, I see a hard time renewing that rivalry in football," Patterson told Paul Finebaum on ESPN Radio.

If I were a fan of either team I would be pissed that they won't play the game anymore.

This seems like a rivalry fans of teams other than a&m and ut want to see, not the other way.

If they don't want to play, and if there is no benefit, why play.

Both ADs have publicly stated several times now that re-starting the rivalry is not going to happen, certainly anytime in the near future. Nothing to see here.

Texas is just being a bitch. A&M joined the one conference where it is obvious that there is plenty of room for a permanent OOC team.

I read that and think it means "when we feel like we can dominate them."

aTm would dominate that rivalry from here on out anyway. Texas saving their arse from embarrassment.

Well if that's what they want but I don't think it's a long term help for UTex just a short term one (they want to avoid losing). However, if the rivalry resumed UTex would get exposure once a year on the SEC Network with SEC recruits watching. Rivalries help exposure and hype and Texas being recruit rich or not you want a presence in SEC recruiting grounds. With the rise of A&M, TCU, and Baylor pickings are slimmer for UTex than they used to be and the smart thing would be to establish a presence in SEC Country.

I'd like to see them play again, but I'm not holding my breath. I know most of the Aggies here disagree, and that's fine. For old curmudgeons like me the game was more about the bonfire than the actual game. The younger guys here never experienced that, so the game was... well, a game.

I don't see it happening any time soon. A&M had the temerity to leave big brother and must be punished. A&M says "Oh yeah? Well we don't need you, either. Nyahh nyahh nyahh." Sounds childish but I don't see that changing for a good long while.

Holy shite Patterson always has something to say about A&M. I don't give a shite about playing tu. If it happens it happens, but with the 9 game schedule it makes less and less sense.

A&M please do not play the Longhorns. We want to slide into that spot!

I want Jeff Long to whisper sweet nothings into Texas' ears. Do you want to help counter your in-state players going to the SEC, want another national rivalry renewed for TV money, want to upgrade your OOC for the playoff system, want to also help hurt your in-state rival by sending us some of y'all's top players. Sure you hate Arkansas but you hate A&M even worse.

Arkansas is ready to sign when you are.

Please don't frick this up for us Aggies.

South Carolina and Florida don't seem to mind. And we have a worse schedule structure in the SEC ATM
