Are all Beat Writers Self-important Douches or Just Matter?

Look.
Everyone knows TB's limitations.
But I follow Tiger sports as much as anyone and I have never once sought out a Matter article. Not one single time.
I come here. Or secondarily TB.
If he thinks he doesn't need these places, he's not very bright.
Yes, this is reactionary. I don't get the whole "too good for my own fan base schtick. Maybe Strauss is rubbing off on him.

I enjoy Matter's articles and have several good interactions with him.

He is a good reporter but I don't think he is good at anything else. His commentary is very often on the negative slant and he over values his analysis.

He is certainly a better reporter than analyst and I'm afraid he doesn't understand the how and why of that.
If you are going to whine about him you should at least post a quote.

What did he say or do to draw your ire?

It's linked in another thread. He said something about not divulging his sources, that if he did that he'd be writing on TigerBoard. Then asked if anyone still read TigerBoard. Kind of a douche canoe comment:

I do not read TB but I understand it is nothing but crazed wild eyed cool aid drinkers

If he didn't use Tigerboard for self-promotion, I'd give him a pass. But he does. So screw him and his mom.

Thank you. I figured it out when I started reading the other threads on it.

I like Matter's articles and work for the most part

TB is awful. At one point yesterday the entire first page was Thad Matta.

Oh, it's certainly an odd place.
I just find it a bit douchey to piss on TB and then use it as a means of free advertising, too.
Nick was even a little offended.

I like Matter, but his attitude towards how Mizzou handled the Sam thing, and how he was shut out of an interview struck me as a guy who wants to get himself in the spotlight.
He was awfully damn proud of himself for being on Meet the Press.
Now the comment about TB, which we both know he pimps himself on. He must be spending a lot of time with Joe Strauss these days.

Matter is not skilled at what he does, not at all.
He's a C writer with a bland personality.
He also doesn't have a very good sports mind, if he gives insight it's very rudimentary.
I definitely think he's douchey, especially since the move to the Post Dispatch.

Yep. I never had a problem with him before that.
He does have a very bland informational style, sometimes I read his articles and think he just googled "Mizzou" for info.
He's still better than Vahe Gregorian.

Vahe is puke worthy.
It's an interesting industry, sports writing, and reporting in general.
It seems like once you're in, you're in, and it doesn't matter how average you are. Which is strange considering there is no shortage of young, educated, and willing writers.

Btw, Remote.
I've been meaning to tell you about Blursday, a great amazing unbelievable blues show on KDHX every Thursday evening from 5 till 7.
They always have the last two shows archived for listening, and a link to listen live.

The music is great, but the hosts really make it extra special.
The one guy is a special kind of guy, which is why they have two hosts. The other one is there mainly to keep him in line and make sure he doesn't do anything too crazy.

KDHX is the single reason I became a hip hop head at the age of 12 or so.
I found their Friday Night HipHop show back in 1990 and it changed everything for me. I recorded every show and dubbed cassettes to give to my friends. The first time I ever heard KRS-One. Great memories for a small town kid. That station helped define my youth.
I'll definitely have to check out that program. What a quality station, I can't believe it's still around. That makes me happy.
