The gent who built my house put foam board insulation behind the brick, then regular insulation. It's pretty awesome at temp regulation.
I really think you're asking good questions that not many here knows shite about. Most people these days pay others to do regular repairs / maintenance much less the cutting edge of energy efficency. Good luck
