A lot of people are just cultural Christians, and part of that is going to church on Christmas and Easter.
It's why the stats about religion mean nothing. The millions who go to church once or twice a year and don't even think about it outside of that will all answer "Christian" in a poll if asked.

I think the true number of Christians in the US would be 5% or less.
