Because we aren't paying our basketball coach more than our football coach.

Not sure why you think we'd be ranked around 40 with a guy who has made 3 final 4s and won about 10 conference titles. Howland would be a homerun.

The only way Howland is hired is if Alden feels like he's out of options and can't make a "splashy" enough hire.

Why didn't Tennessee hire him?
Why didn't Auburn?
Why didn't Marquette?
Why didn't Wake Forest?
Heck, why didn't Tulsa? They would have had a shot at $1.85M per.

No idea. Maybe he didn't want those jobs. Maybe they didn't meet his salary requirement. Maybe they didn't like him.

What difference does it make? He has by far the best resume of any coach that would be available to us and that's including Marshall.

He also has the most baggage of any coach named in association with our search. There's a reason there hasn't been any takers in the Howland sweepstakes. I will be surprised if that changes with Mizzou.

I've read the articles. I don't see the big deal. It's not NCAA trouble. He pissed of a few prima Donna players and a few Cali AAU coaches.

Again, I don't see us getting Marshall and Howland is EASILY the best coach after him. It's not close either

Do you expect us to make a hire in the next week?

Calipari's initial contract with Kentucky was less than $3M and he was a far more proven commodity.

Cal was getting more then $3 million. He had radio, commercial, Nike, endorsements, etc that pushed his salary well past $4.5-5 million/year when he came to Kentucky.

And would've been in deep trouble with Muhammad's recruitment. But a kU grad screwed up the investigation.

His salary from UK was less than $3M. Every coach gets other monies. That's not what we're talking about. Get back on the cash register.

O'rly?LINK

I believe his original contract form the University was $400 thousand…he received an addition $3.4 from other revenues…and other bells and whistles (i.e., graduation rates, APR, Final 4, years stayed at UK). making his original contract close to $4 million. His extension after 2 years has exceeded it.

So, kindly get back in the kitchen and make me a sandwich you fricking dolt.

You are correct. It was over $3M. I was wrong.

The basic point still stands. It's a tough sell to me to say Greg Marshall should get the second highest initial salary ever (as opposed to my original incorrect assertion that it would be the highest).

But he's not in trouble with the NCAA and never has been.

Those final fours were a long time ago, but I'm sure St Johns thought they hit a home run with Lavin as well...

To be fair Dale, Lavin had it going until he got sick with cancer.

He was swinging some good recruiting classes and made a run before he got sick.

Something is up with Holland…he is not getting any love with anyone. He was suppose to be the "home run hire" at Marquette…it did not happen.

At UCLA.

He's done OK at St. Johns, has a HOF coach sitting next to him on the bench (or did, Keady), no where near that amount of success or direction of the program like he had going at UCLA.

Who cares how long ago they were, (they weren't THAT long). He went to 3 in a row. Is there even another active coach who has done that? You can count them on 1 hand if there is even 1. Hell, he won the PAC 12 his last year at UCLA.

He's a very good coach, his resume speaks for itself.
