I love the 2011 Bama defense. That said, the 2015 defense should have even more depth and arguably more talent. The hunger will have to be there and there may be some inexperience, so it may not work out as well, but in 2011 the Process had just begun.

This is the 2014 front 7, I'll go deep into the depth chart. Note, I'm not listing some guys. Like Christian Miller is probably gonna redshirt, so excluding him on this list.

A'Shawn Robinson (So)
Jon Allen (So)
Jarran Reed (Jr)
DJ Pettway (Jr)
Dalvin Tomlinson (RsSo)
Dee Liner (So)
Da'Shawn Hand (Fr)
Darren Lake (Jr)
Brandon Ivory (RsSr)

Reggie Ragland (Jr)
Reuben Foster (So)
Dillon Lee (Jr)
Denzel Devall (Jr)
Tim Williams (So)
Ryan Anderson (Jr)
Rashaan Evans (Fr)
Xzavier Dickson (Sr)
Trey DePriest (Sr)

The front 7 probably only loses 2 starters and 1 Co-Starter. But then you look at how many people will play and how they will all be back in 2015, another year older and with another great freshman class hopefully containing the likes of Daron Payne, Tim Settle, and Mekhi Brown. Plus some.

The secondary? This is how they look in 2014.

Eddie Jackson (So)
Tony Brown (Fr)
Marlon Humphrey (Fr)
Geno Smith (Jr)
Landon Collins (Jr)
Cyrus Jones (Jr)
Bradley Sylve (RsJr)
Hootie Jones (Fr)
Maurice Smith (So)
Jarrick Williams (RsSr)
Nick Perry (RsSr)

We for sure will lose Jarrick and Perry. So, we'll need a new Star, and Perry isn't even guaranteed much PT this year. We'll return our three best corners plus, hopefully, our Free Safety in Geno Smith. Assuming Perry isn't the Money or Safety in Dime, we would return our Money too. 4/6 spots return, plus some depth.

Inexperience will not be a problem.

Also, if we check out the offensive side of the ball for experience in 2015, we'll have our QB back, Derrick Henry back at RB, Corey McCarron back at FB, he seems to be the backup FB and just based off of spring practice reports, could see time with the 1s. Coop, White, and Jones will be gone at WR, but Sims, Foster, Black, and Falkins will have some experience. Mostly Black though, the others will still have question marks. OJ Howard and Ty Smith will be back at TE. C-Rob and Ryan Kelly will be back on the OL. If Arie, Leon, and Shep remains starters, we'll only return two on the OL in 2015. But I'm confident that Dom Jackson will take someone's job. I think he can win the RT job, so we'd have three returning. On the chance that Grant Hill finds a spot (LG plz), then it is 4.

I threw that in for some reason. If we can get a dad-gum kicker and punter we may have the best team ever assembled.

Hopefully someone steps up.

Or better yet, hopefully we never have to settle for FGs.

Prior to the A&M game I called that we wouldn't have to punt once. I think we punted three times the whole game. Close enough

I really would like to see us go for more 4th and shorts though. In 2012 I was always pissed on like 4th and 1 when we'd punt. I mean THAT OL with Eddie Lacy? We're dominating anyway, just run it up Saban!

No but seriously, letting up at the end because you're winning big breeds complacency.

In some ways I feel this, but I'm tentative.

Probably because of Nussmeier's questionable "Let's run straight on 3rd and 2" calls Everyone in the building knew what was going to happen. It's one thing in 12 with that line, but 13 just wasn't working

I hope you're right, but that 2011 bunch is a special group. After the Tornado outbreak and the rally that followed, that team and this community were united.

We may have more talent in the future, but for me 2011 is the best. They meant so much to Tuscaloosa. They were awesome and made us so proud.

2011 bama defense never gave up more than 14 points in a game. That defense also had 5 eventual 1st round draft picks that either started in base defense or at least one formation. The lsu offense that appeared anemic against Alabama averaged over 40 points per game if you take out the bama games. It will be 50 years before you see another defense like '11 Alabama. They were a hateful bunch.

The 2011 offense may have been something with Lee at the helm, but did you see them struggle against Arkansas and Georgia with Jefferson at the helm? In retrospect, 1/9/12 shouldn't have been that big of a surprise after the first half of the SEC Championship. Also, keep in mind that 2011 LSU's scoring offense was high due to their dominant Special Teams and defense.

2011 Alabama could have gone down as one of the best teams of all time if they'd defeated 2011 LSU by double digits the first time and went on to win the SEC and national championships.

Even if he doesn't, he would definitely be the 6th lineman who steps in if someone gets hurt. He will be experienced.

They had what it takes.

Personally, to me as a fan... They are my favorite.

It was the perfect team for the circumstances. They got knocked down, but fought back.

The best of our champions.

They still did. They just ran into another all time great team on the same day that Saban decides he's gonna keep kicking field goals no matter how bad the kicker is.

I can agree with you and the poster above you; however, you don't see non-Alabama fans proclaiming 2011 Alabama in the same breath as 1995 Nebraska and 2001 Miami. I wasn't watching football back then, but I've seen the scores and heard the stories. The reason 2011 Alabama isn't up there is probably due to the 1-loss. It's tough to be considered a GOAT when you lose a regular season game.

Yes, it was nice how Alabama fought back, but the team needed some help. They could have easily gone down as Alabama's best team to not win a national championship.

2011 LSU's season was an all time great for the first 13 games. Even if they'd managed to go 14-0 somehow, that wouldn't change the fact that their offense was 1-dimensional. Past teams with elite defenses, good offense, and respectable special teams could hang with 2011 LSU.

You guys. I absolutely loved our 2011 defense. GOAT. So far. Some of you just want to make them irreplaceable as the best defense ever. Relax. There'd be no greater honor than for them to be replaced by another Bama team.

They'll be remembered for a long time and cherished. They meant a lot to the city especially. They are the glue of the dynasty. There's nothing wrong with hoping for a defense as good or better to show back up at Bama

I said earlier in this very thread that I thought the 2015 D could be better than it.

That's what makes it so special. That Alabama defense did everything it could do.

We are talking about defense. That Bama D was the best I've seen since 1992. It was such a special group. It's going to be hard to reproduce the heart that team had. They were playing for so much more than the personal glory of a Championship. They were playing for the people who had lost so much. That was a Championship that UA and Tuscaloosa had to have. That team brought it home. 2011 might not be the greatest team ever, but in my eyes they are the best Alabama team.

The 2014 D may be on the 2009/2012 level which would be a championship caliber defense. Problem is our offense and kicking game are going to lose us a couple of games I suspect, hope I'm wrong.

Now 2015, could be an epic Bama team. I mean one of our best teams ever, but they will have to earn it on the field. Our defense should be nasty, our offense should also be very good and our special teams and kickers will be a year older and better.
