All defense, 90% run-based offense?
Didn't look like either Bateman or Sims could mentally process at the level required to run the up-tempo Saban wants to incorporate. Especially Sims. Guy didn't know whether to run or pass or if the offense was set.

How did Morris look? I didn't catch any of his play.

Id be ok with a heavy run, and play action based offense. I think this is the key to beating HUNH.

Actually, Sims is playing about like 1992 Jay Barker. 1994 Jay Barker is a different story altogether.

Why not? Have you seen Jay Barker's stats from 1992? They were pathetic.

Jay Barker's passing yards in the '92 Sugar Bowl versus Miami? EIGHTEEN yards.

It's a decent comparison but Alabama doesn't have the experience in the secondary to even be as dominant as the 2011 unit. But this will be another great defense. Regardless, I'm no longer of the opinion Sims will even start the opener. I hate to judge it on one practice, but Bateman seems more capable. Thankfully we will have summer skels and fall camp to see what Coker can do.

The main factor that made that 1992 secondary so good was the defensive line. You had two 1st Team All-Americans playing up front on virtually every play in '92. They got lots and lots of pressure on opposing QBs, thus forcing bad throws, thus leading to lots of interceptions and pass break ups. The only team that defensive front didn't get consistent pressure on were the Florida Gators in the SEC Championship Game. Coincidentally enough, Florida was the Tide's toughest challenge that season.

Looked more like the 2011 Spring game when the Defense beat the Offense 17-13.
