I know...the SEC....damnit...I keep dividing teams up as if we were still in divisions. How about this, instead?

By mid-February, UT was behind Florida, Kentucky, Georgia, Arkansas, Missouri and was tied with aTm (a team which had just swept them). So, in reality, they were around 6th or 7th in the conference at that time.

Any answer about Tennessee basketball that doesn't include Pat Summitt is a wrong answer.

Compared to Arky's resume since 1998, absolutely it is.

Compared to Arky's resume prior to that, no.

But seeing as its not 1997 anymore, I'd stay out of this one if I were you. Just a suggestion.

Looks pretty good. Probably a better overall resume than anyone in the SEC except Florida and UK during that time isn't it?

Mizzou has 1 more NCAA tourney appearance and 1 more Elite Eight appearance than the Vols during that timeframe, so I'd tend to put us neck and neck/maybe a tad ahead b/c of that.

You should. Tennessee had some outstanding teams in the 1960's and 1970's under Coach Mears. Unfortunately for them (and usually Vanderbilt),Kentucky would get the league's lone bid and UT would have a 20-6 or 21-5 record without much to show for it.

Us and K-State had to put up with the same shite in the 1970s due to a certain school to the west of us whose name I shall not mention. Very similar profile in terms of we had lots of 20-6 type teams that would be high NCAA tournament seeds nowadays, but back then the Big Eight was usually getting just one bid and we went the whole decade of the 70s with only two NCAA tournament appearances despite an extremely high overall winning percentage.

Basketball recruiting is national. And not just for the top programs.

Oh, and while we're at it your campus is beautiful and Knoxville is a destination city, so I'm sure you guys will return to the realm of the athletic elite where you rightfully belong.

Well hell, if we're going that far we might as well say that the "Vol Navy" is a Yacht Club and Neyland is an American Monaco.

Holy Crap...I don't know which is more impressive... Arkansas having 24 SEC titles in 22 years or Missouri having 15 SEC titles in 2.

Mizzou's 25 NCAAt appearances in 2 years has to be some sort of national record.

And Arkansas has been averaging 72 wins/season and playing 113 games since joining the SEC.

So the teams on the list are not from the SEC?

Win a National Championship, then Tennessee fans can act like God's gift to the game, I would start with making a final four, until then you are a middle of the pack program, don't try to church it up.

They are. Are the teams' statistics on the list an accurate representation of their tenure as an SEC member?

Yep. I said UT was god's gift to the game. Verbatim.

Or I could have been showing Tennessee's SEC basketball history to counter a completely misguided comparison to TTU football. You'd think an Arkansas fan would appreciate the significance of a school's historical value. You're one of the few SEC schools who has to rely on it more than UT at the moment.

You want to use 80 years of data to propel your team above others who have better history but only 22 and 2 years of data in the league.

It is a great straw man, I guess.

It isn't hard to admit Kentucky has dominated the SEC.

The refusal to admit other programs (Flordia) have risen above the others and better programs have joined the league.

Tennessee fans like to discuss how they are the tallest midget of the rest of the bunch.

I used the statistics to portray historical signficance in the SEC. Including teams' tenures outside of the conference wouldn't make sense. You can be sour and throw logical fallacy accusations all you want, doesn't make the statistics false.

Speaking of logical fallicies, where have I refused to admit any of that?
