Solid thread OP. I would like to see the rest of the SEC's resume since that time. Kentucky and Florida are obviously way ahead, but UT is right with, or ahead, of everyone else.

UT men's bball is annually top ten in attendance with some of the best facilities in the country. This is a fact.

Fanbase is a bit of a worry though

Oh screw it, let's all stop trying to convince Tennessee they're not UNC.

Oh, and while we're at it your campus is beautiful and Knoxville is a destination city, so I'm sure you guys will return to the realm of the athletic elite where you rightfully belong.

Yes, though UT has the money and resources to be a successful basketball school, it should just accept it doesn't have a great history and hire a mediocre coach.

I finally get it.

This is why nobody can talk to you guys about anything. Nobody is encouraging you to hire a crappy coach. But your AD is increasingly in the toilet, and yet you think it is weird that we think it is bizarre that you treated your Sweet 16 coach like shite, who left to go to another school with as much money and as many resources.

You don't get it now, but you will when your AD actually hires a mediocre coach instead of whoever is the Gruden of college basketball that you think you will get.

Mike Hamilton ruined the UT AD. It is not fair to judge Hart just yet, but most fans like that he stuck to his guns. Cuonzo had 3 straight mediocre regular seasons. UT lucked into the tournament and then made a great run to the Sweet 16. Hart did not believe Cuonzo was worth more than $2 million a year; however, he would be willing to pay the appropriate coach more than $2 million.

I agree, Cuonzo was wronged by the fanbase and boosters, but Hart played this right imo. You shouldn't give a coach an extension based kff of one plahoff run. UT had multiple NBA talents and should've made a deep tourney run the last couple of years.l Hopefully UT hires a good coach and everyone wins. As of right now, we have no idea how this will play out.

Smartest thing Hart did was Adjusting Martin's buyout. Instead of him getting 60% of whatever was due to him on his deal (3.2 Mil if he would have been fired after next season). He changed it to a flat 1 M at any time.

That was a sign to Cuonzo that if next year went bad he was out.

I am glad we agree on something

Don't worry, UT football looks like it is coming back to some degree. A good UT is good for LSU and vice versa

Ummm...he wasn't a Sweet 16 coach when he was treated poorly. He was a 3rd year coach who hadn't made the NCAA tournament and was sitting at 4th place in the SEC East when he was treated poorly. The petition that disgruntled fans signed came out in early February. At that time, UT was sitting on the bubble of getting in the tourney and had been on a recent losing streak.

No real history of success until recently, success largely centered around one eccentric coach, treats subsequent, less eccentric but more stable coaches like shite, gets upset when success slows down.

UT's SEC Rankings (1933-Present) All-Time:
Conference championships: t-2nd
Conference tournament championships: t-3rd
NCAA tourney apperances: t-2nd
Wins: 3rd
Win %: t-3rd

I'm not sure you understand what history means.

That much is absolutely true.

Fair enough. If they had lost the play in game to Iowa, I could've understood a dismissal

This is my biggest problem in all this. I thought Cuonzo deserved better treatment from the fans after the S16 run.

Where did he say that? He simply said this is why UT has expectations, not expectations to be in the national title hunt every year. Yep, its official, you're definitely retarded.

And Knoxville is better than most SEC destinations
