Particularly when the population of the US is around 300,000,000 people and the entire US military only has about 2,000,000 people... the majority are support personnel.

it wont just be the military, all the federal agencies will be involved. I think a fraction of the military wouldn't go along with it but about 99 percent of the fed agencies would have no problem with it.
The feds would also recruit half the country to add to the control of the percent that refused to be controlled.

Yeah its not practical if some 10 million with guns are pissed off and not going to take it.

You haven't been paying attention.
Foreign troops have been trained on US soil for such an event.
You've got FEMA and Homeland Security armies, and you've got the UN.
Plus numbers aren't that important when one team has drones, tanks, planes, ect.
