Everything about it is professional except for player compensation. Why is it such a big deal to lose "amateurism"?

IDK. The NCAA is not perfect, but it is the only thing keeping college sports from being semi-pro.
Can we stop acting like they aren't already semi-pro?

I'm fine with it being semi-pro.

That's BS. Common sense rules could be in place. It's asinine to expect these kids, with so much exposure, to not seek some sort of profit. An academic scholarship recipient has no cap on their profiteering of their name while in school. In the technology age, these student athletes are held to a far higher standard than previously. It's asinine to totally devoid them of any outside income, especially considering the socio-economic background of most of them.
