Looking at it on a micro level will never yield an answer. Looking at it at a macro level and it's pretty clear if you take your blinders off. Unless you haven't been paying attention over the last 30 years. Your story is becoming more and more the exception rather than the rule. Some of that can be blamed on the sense of entitlement some younger folks have, but a lot can also be blamed on the system being rigged for the wealthy.

Gov't interference has increased the rigging. There's a reason so many politicians are multi millionaires when they leave office.
