He ain't mad, he's just full-on trolling. He don't even believe what he says. He just wants us to believe it.

Agree. College baseball is just like college hockey. You have a few schools that think each sport is a part of the "big 3". Minnesota and Wisconsin both pack their arenas for hockey, good luck telling their fans that it isn't a big 3 sport. Both are secondary sports. There is only a Big 2.

I tend to look at it like this. The biggest sports in the US are football, basketball, and baseball.

This.

They're the main 3.

Of course tangs the reason. Some people are just douche bags and won't acknowledge it.

Why are y'all trying so hard to defend college baseball? Y'all love the sport and that's great but be realistic. It's a niche sport that not many people know anything about.

I agree. It's a bit of a silly argument to make.

You guys are still arguing with the guy that is pissed that people watch and support college baseball? I don't get why some of you get so upset over what others enjoy watching and following.

I like sports, like many people here. I also don't need to go along with this "groupthink" scenario and claim to not enjoy a sport simply because not enough people get into it.

I also don't need ESPN to televise shite to make me any more intrigued by a sport either. I can formulate my own opinions and analysis of a game without some dumb mf'er on ESPN telling me about why he thinks so-and-so is the best team and why I need to believe him.

True, and what would the third be in college. Track, swimming, golf, hockey. I don't think so. I don't even think you could put women's basketball, because outside of UCONN noone cares.

The third depends on the school.

For some it will be Women's Basketball, for some it will be baseball, for some it will be track and cross country, for others it may be lacrosse.

There is no "big3", only a "Big2", football and men's basketball, the rest of the sports are secondary sports.

Nobody in this thread has said that. We've argued that if college baseball was indeed a big 3 college sport then it stands to reason that there would be a demand for it on television. ESPN doesn't air much college baseball because it doesn't generate enough interest NATIONALLY to warrant the airtime.

Yes.

ESPN will also sale air time, that is how/why the NHRA receives coverage on their stations, if the NCAA wanted to elevate baseball to the status of football/basketball they would work with espn to elevate the perception of the sport and bring it into the homes across america.

There will be an increase in SEC baseball when the SEC-Network launches, not from a demand but for a need to fill air time slots, there will also be an increase in coverage of SEC women's basketball and other secondary sports played by SEC teams. Original content costs time and money, it is cheaper/easier for the network to fill time slots with live events or pre-record live events to air in an open time slot. (what they do with NHRA coverage).

Women's basketball, correct?

The per game attendance is pretty equal to baseball. Sure the total amount of tickets sold will not equal baseball due to the difference of 15 or so home games compared to 45 or so home games in baseball.

Agreed, which means to me it's really a regional preference. I mean in Hawaii it's probably surfing.

The problem is the imbalance in the pre season vs the conference and the size of venues. 1/3 of home games are crappy non conference that don't draw well. Then conference comes along and you sell out multiple times but seating is maxed. Seems like 2 years ago UK was drawing 2K - 4K in the pre conference but sold out (8K) for 6 of the conference games. The final average number was 6K but did not reflect true demand as the sold out games could have sold 2K - 4K more (Tennessee game could probably sell 16K - 22K if it was played in Rupp). Since Louisville plays YUM all the time (22K) they can average about 3K more per game.

Georgia is the odd bird as they usually have a good team but do not draw well. Seems like if it is not football, UGA fans just do not show up in great numbers.

Which is what I was implying earlier in the thread

Baseball = South
Hockey = North
Lacrosse = East Coast
W basketball = Tennessee and Kentucky
Skiing = Colorado
Wrestling = Midwest

The schools on the west coast seem pretty involved in water sports. (Not the R.Kelly kind).

They only play 1 game and it is reserved for a pre conference game. This year it was Duke (23,700) and last year it was DePaul (19,000). Next fall it may be Baylor or Notre Dame.

UK's coach prefer's to play in Memorial with the packed house feel. If they were playing in Rupp, and drawing say 12,000 it would mean Rupp was only half full. In conference only Tennessee travels well enough to fill Rupp. Most SEC women's teams do not travel well. Vanderbilt just does not have the numbers, South Carolina is just getting their program to grow, and Georgia does not support non football sports. Texas A&M and LSU are too far away to draw good numbers.
