Like I say, student athletes should have one of two options:

1) Take a 4-year scholarship that the university must honor so long as you meet minimum academic requirements.

or

2) Forego the scholarship, negotiate a year-by-year salary, contingent on on-field success. At the end of the contractual period, the university retains the right to cut ties with the student athlete.

They should negotiate like anyone else with their job. If they want to take an offered scholarship, fine, but there shouldn't be an stupid stipulations. College football is a professional sport. They should be treated like professionals. Any other proposal presupposes some stupid idea about amateurism or treats the players like someone else's property that doesn't have the same rights afforded a normal person.

If that's what you want, fine, but there isn't any way to argue against the players being paid what they're worth on the open market. People just don't want capitalism infringing on their little games. If middle/upper class white kids were the main people making up these rosters this would have changed a long time ago.
