Ive never encountered briars on any of the trails around the Chattooga. Where are you having this issue, specifically? Have you considered some Wrangler blue jeans or Dickie's that are extra tough fabric? I know that no one will think you are a badass unless you are wearing a $200 pair of pants that says "I'm a badass", but it should get the job done for you.

There's one catch, wranglers are hot as hell and will weigh a ton when wet. The guide pants are thin fabric that dries quickly and does not stain. I plan to be in the water and most of the area above HWY 28 bridge is wilderness with briars, fallen trees and sticker bushes everywhere. I'm not talking about the hiking trails, I'm talking about the woods that you have to navigate to get up stream of the river to the good spots.
