This isn't Austin, where they have lawyers on retainer for $1 apiece. The actual municipal leadership of College Station and the police department HATE the university, which is ironic because they wouldn't exist as a city without it.

My dad and I were talking about this earlier and that is exactly what he said. Actually, I think it was word for word. Wait, what?
I lived in BCS, for 17 years and Daddy moved there in '84. He is retired law enforcement and he doesn't like the majority of the department. The CSPD does HATE the University and all of the students. Although I probably deserved most of my run in's with them, most don't. 98% of them are pricks.
