According to Parrish, Buzz Williams and those close to him had made it clear to Tennessee higher ups towards the end of the season that that was the job he wanted if it came open. Tennessee was well aware of his interest and Buzz is "likely the Tennessee coach today" if UT hadn't gotten hot down the stretch and snuck in to the tourney.

When it became clear that Martin wouldn't be fired, Williams turned his attention elsewhere in his search to get out of Marquette and ended up at Virginia Tech.

Apparently this is from Gary Parrish on CBS Sports Radio this evening.

We likely would have been far better off if we had missed the tourney and hired Buzz. Strange how everything works out though, as Cuonzo is now a candidate to replace Buzz at Marquette.

Tennessee needs to stay away from Buzzes. The last one you had was a disaster.

What makes you think that?

Buzz has been desperate to find a new job for years as he couldn't meet the expectations at Marquette, they didn't make any post season tournament, and he took the next job to avoid being fired from the last strategy.

Buzz isn't that great of a coach, he coached one season at New Orleans and went below .500, then he took over a loaded Marquette roster and won with Creans players. This year he was horrible at Marquette.
