I think you would have a difficult time finding ex players who feel fondly of him. He can put on the charm and the raspy voiced good ole boy routine, which only made a lot of people dislike him more. How he jumped coach Haffner is a mystery, but there must have been pictures and livestock involved. I guess he could have matured since then and became less of a dick without all the pressure of coaching in a spot way over his head... He may be the greatest guy ever now.... Who knows?

Got a good buddy who played baseball while you were there (I assume). He says basically the same thing you just said. BUT a year ago I heard a true story from a guy about a great deed Goff did for the guys mom when she was dying (while Goff was HC). it was really a fascinating deed that involved him going way out of his way just for her. The story really had a lasting impression on me.
