Since this thread is still going, I figure it's probably also worth mentioning that Athens-Clarke County is a rather bizarre area in terms of law enforcement. ACC is the smallest county in the state and also has three police forces that share jurisdiction. You have the Athens City cops, the ACCPD, and the UGAPD whose jurisdiction is any and all areas surrounding campus (and given that campus buildings are literally scattered all across the county, their jurisdiction is basically limitless). So, three police departments, three separate mouths that need to be fed with citations and arrests. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.

That's the situation in most college towns. University Police, city police and county police/sheriff. UGA isn't unique in that regard.

You missed this point. You realize Athens is basically the size of the county and the University covers almost the entire county. You basically have three police departments covering the smallest county in Georgia.

The point is that all three basically share their jurisdictions because of how small the county is (I can drive from one side of the county to the other in roughly 10 minutes). And that's not even taking into account that part of Athens extends into Oconee County, adding a fourth PD to consider (though they don't carry anywhere near the stingy reputation of the UGAPD or Athens City PD) in a very small area.
