This morning on the radio.

On 9 games

quote:

"A nine game schedule is coming and coming in the very near future for our league. There are certain folks in this league that have been against it, but those issues should be resolved. As you all know I've been a very vocal proponent of a nine-game league schedule over the years. It should be finalized in the coming months. We're still ironing a few things out.

On permanent opponents

quote:

"There's been talk about competitive imbalance in regards to permanent opponents, but there's a group of us in this league that have been very firm in our belief that they are here to stay. That's not something we're flexible on in any way, whether we had stayed with eight games or not, that wasn't something that was going to change. We had made that very clear, that wasn't going to be something we were open to. It's too important for our university, our players and our fans. As someone who's been both places, the Alabama game is a game that's a special deal to both sides and it's one of the games that sets the SEC apart from other leagues. Auburn and Georgia are with us on that deal too. We have a majority of the league, so it's really not an issue that should be talked about moving forward. We're going to play them."

6-2-1 is the way to go. Keep permanent opponents, rivalries are what make CFB so awesome. Good to see this. Gonna be fun reading that incoming anger too.

And we know the plain and simple reason that you do. So LSU-Florida will just have to stay even though there's no traditional rivalry there like UGA/AU and Alabama/Tennessee.

Too bad we can't go back to a 10 game league and just do a true round robin. That's the only way for fair competitive balance in scheduling every year.

I do want to say that the 9 game rotation is favorable to me because I want to see the other teams sooner who we have yet to play.

I also want to point out that with the new playoff structure the SEC shouldn't be too quick to go to this schedule until it is known that the lack of a 9 game schedule is detrimental to getting into the playoff.

Pragmatism should reign.

This coming form the AD of a team that is 0-5(last 5yrs) and 2-8(last 10yrs) against his permanent opponent. While LSU is 3-2 and 6-4 over the same period. Only a hillbilly would lobby to continue to have his teefh kicked in on a yearly basis.

This is good news. I wanted them to keep the "rivalry" game. Now maybe bama will have to play UT, UK, and Vandy all in the same season.

Thank. God. 9 games is beneficial for everyone. 12 years between trips to Knoxville is just absurd.
