No maybe about it. OU or Va Tech would have gone to the BCS Champ game that year had LSU not played in the SEC Champ game.

LSU would have passed Va Tech no matter what - because everyone still remembered LSU beating the hokies by six touchdowns to open the year.
LSU backed into that championship because OU was better than MU and WVU choked.
