The Arkansas Times is a hack website, I'm not hanging my hat on them. They're attacking him for having a $500K mortgage, that's not exactly my definition of a "rich" person's house/mortgage.

Personally I differentiate between his job performance and his TD persona (even if that persona is extremely unapealing). Also, there IS a difference between compensatory and punitive damages and we certainly expect judges to step in when juries blur those lines. The tone of the ArkyTimes would make people believe that he overturned the entire verdict, which is not the case. This is typical political fear mongering by them.

That said, dude needs to take the same advice I have for Bert. STFU with the stupid posts/statements.

a judge of higher standing should never

1. Speak sexually explicitly like he does.
2. Make horrible comments about divorce, or give details of any of his cases.
3. Be a Racist.
4. Care more about money than judicial rights or justice. The nursing home case he presided over was horrible.
5. he is asinine and stupid for displaying publicly those beliefs, and if he actually has those beliefs, he is not fit for the judicial system.

I agree. It's pretty cut & dried common sense to me, tbh.

When did we stop expecting more of those in certain positions.

Idk, but it's happened, apparently, and it perplexes the shite out of me. Why wouldn't anyone expect more of those in certain positions? How can anyone respect a judge who says & does these things or feels this way, then states it crudely & publicly? Talk about having contempt for a court (judge).
quote:

I remember when a teacher would get fired for infidelity, drunkenness, and being a complete and utter idiot.

So do I, but there were only a couple of instances of any of this when I was growing up, and it was dealt with quickly & harshly.

As a matter of fact, from jr. high on up, our teachers were much, much older and had been there for eons. Hell, some even taught my parents. The younger ones right out of college ALWAYS taught the younger grades first. For example, we never had 22 year old calculus or physics teachers. We had 22 year old grade school teachers. There was good reason for this, I suppose, if you read the paper or watch the news weekly.
quote:

These days they have meetings at bars, take home each others spouses, and act like complete uneducated trailer park trash. (not all, but some, in fact more than the past)

Funny you should mention the meetings at a bar thing. It's widely known around there's a certain area with a well known extremely out of the way secluded pick up joint/pool hall/biker bar where teachers, single & not, "meet" on the reg. And I don't mean a girls' night out at the local Chili's or Applebee's kind of place where normal people go to have a couple of margaritas or fruity drink special of the week. I'm talking about one of those places that issues you a weapon at the door if you aren't already packing. Needless to say, there is talk, and whether it's true or not, it doesn't matter. It's all about perception.
quote:

Sad shape of affairs. I hope he loses, and loses badly!

Yep, & so do I.

And for clarity, I certainly do not expect anyone to be perfect. Everyone has flaws & has made mistakes. The problem is when elected officials & others that are generally held to a higher standard continue to make really bad decisions or their fundamental beliefs or arrogance affect the jobs they were elected to do in a negative way, and they don't care.

I don't know if my school did, or not?

I don't think that stuff was invented yet?

That old format is what has caused a lot of the problems in schools.

The world is changing and the old teachers aren't able to adapt enough. The STEM teachers that are younger are almost always better than the older ones. The fields themselves evolve enough that things we learned in school just aren't the same anymore.

We have 8 planets. Only retarded people think that Christopher Columbus discovered America. Integration of new and evolving technology in our schools is difficult at best.

I don't think it's fear mongering at all. They stated fact. It doesn't make me afraid; it pisses me off.

Yes, there is a difference between compensatory and punitive damages. Had the twelve member jury awarded unanimously $20 million to the family in Greenbrier whose 76 yr. old relative was left to die in the nursing home there, screaming with abdominal pain for hours until she did, never making it to the emergency room because the doctor's orders were "lost," I could see that jury wanting to "punish." But the fact that the unanimous jury awarded only $5 million shows that was not the case, and quite frankly, shows restraint from doing so on their part.

This judge's overturning the unanimous jury's verdict and reducing the amount awarded to only $1 million is repulsive and shows a blatant bias.

I've come to know that area of Arkansas, and believe without a doubt the vast majority are not in favor of frivolous lawsuits or awarding radical, extreme, or disproportionate amounts of money. The $5 million judgment was not any of those things, nor was it punitive; therefore, the judge had no reason, other than his own bias, to overturn it.

Frankly, I don't care what the reputation of this website is. If it is generally more liberal, of course conservatives are going to have an issue with it. I take things such as this on a case by case basis, and in this particular case, I see nothing by this website that sways me one way or another. The judge, by his own words & actions, did that all by himself.

No problem with any of the above, but when the acceptable moral standards change with the technology, something is amiss.

Our kids deserve better, our courts deserve better, and our country deserves better. Where are the true decent leaders anymore?

Then maybe the new & improved models need to adapt to the idea that it's really not acceptable to have sex with students, party like they're still in college, etc. A modicum of decency & a bit of morality would be nice. Many of them act as though they are not mature enough to handle the job - mainly upper grades - regardless of their degrees or GPA.

I agree people "talk" or e-talk or whatever too much these days about their escapades, then in an instant, it's all over cyberspace, the damn news, everywhere. And I really don't care to hear about all of their shite.
