A great point. There is none.

Even participating in wars, horrible deficits and overall debt doesn't effect people overall in a real tangible way.

You have to make an effort to be involved and have an opinion and until there's a reason for the average schmo to do so, they won't. They'll need to be entertained to even be slightly informed. Most people seem to be really isolated from the dealings of politics. Even debt, wars, taxes, etc. don't really make much of a difference to the majority of people. At least not enough of a difference to give a shite about them and why things are the way they are.

If there's ever a situation that causes people's quality of life to be changed in a real way I imagine there would be a lot more interest in politics. Until then, it's all just news stories and horrible politics that are best avoided.
