It's a bit of both. Being turned off by the other side makes it easier to get sucked into the rhetoric. It's a never ending cycle of political rage.
I see that now with 2008, the choices were terrible. I voted Obama in 2008, because I was 19 and overly optimistic about the world. The resulting six years has made me much more cynical.

Life experiences and age has everything to do with perspective.
Believe it or not, but I've actually mellowed quite a bit as I've gotten older, and am more moderate than I once was.
