Seems to be that you frequently hear on here about how your rival paying for player's iphones, giving them hummers/chargers/mercedes, paying them up to $180,000 and hiring hostesses as prostitutes.

Do you buy it? Do you believe it is widespread or that this group of believers is nuts?

I believe that nearly every major program provides impermissible benefits to a large number of students athletes. I also believe that the majority of those benefits are to cover cost of living not covered by scholarship.

I also believe that there are rogue/non AD affiliated boosters like that Devin Shapiro guy from UM that pay/treat athletes like a celebrity but it comes from the territory. People like hanging around these kids whether the athletic department allows it or not

Yes, we do it, you do it. Everyone does to an extent.

Edit: The point is to not make it blatant.

I think every big time program pays star players/prospects through backchannels.

I feel like the cheating is much more mild than people think.

I think there are degrees of cheating that happen at every SEC school. Some do it more than others. I think it also varies depending on the status of the program. For example, I think some of the schools who are trying to build/rebuild a program probably do it more because they have a lot less to risk. The thinking behind it is "If I'm caught, what can the NCAA do to me that my program hasn't already done to itself?"
That being said, I don't think it is near as blatant as some have said. I don't think every recruit who goes to ____ gets a new car. They might get some hundred dollar handshakes. The coaches might also stretch the contact rules for recruiting in a "better to ask forgiveness than permission" way.

I believe they try but if they so much as buy a kid a pizza they self report it and get themselves put on probation.

Cheating happens at all schools to some degree. Now that I am in big 12 country if find it interesting how much time they spend on talking about the SEC cheating.

There are no way super freaks like Scam, Autograph Manziel, and soon to be stars like Derrick Henry don't get paid.

We have a lot of rivals, so yes and no.

If you didn't include the "blatantly" then it is a blanket yes for every single team in at least the BCS.

Blatantly? Naw. I'm sure they're doing something though. Just like I'm sure we're doing something and everybody else is doing something. Most college programs crossed the line long ago, it's just a matter of how far and how quietly you can keep going afterwards.

This thread would go 10 pages if I started to get into SWC cheating and Texas having an alumni as the Chairman on the infractions committee.

I believe all big time programs cheat in many ways including paying or turning a blind eye to boosters paying players

Yes, I and the rest of the country believes/knows uat is throwing money and benefits around. That's the perks of having your good buddy as president of the NCAA.
