Was that the fluke Fresno State year?
Yep. Won Game 1, lost Game 2, single handedly lost Game 3 to Steve fricking Detweiler. There was (still is) a theory that UGA was hamstrung by the Nike bats we were using that year; bats didn't give anywhere as much pop as what other teams were using. UGA changed bats in 2009 and were undefeated for a good stretch before collapsing and losing pretty much everyone to the draft (which signaled the beginning of the end).

I think Georgia has the most potential of current programs that aren't consistently elite at the moment. The scholarship situation alone should be a huge advantage (unless I'm off base here), and there is great recruiting territory in the state. Y'all need to find a way to get students involved. The Ole Miss model is a good one that Alabama seems to be moving toward.

quote:kind of off topic, but this reminded me when i was at the CWS this past year and was talking to a UNC fan. He was telling me how Fresno State was shipping their bats out every night and getting them corked, i believe. don't know if that was true, or he was just a sore loser

quote:Shame on us for thinking Nike bats wouldn't be a handicap. Most of the time, Nike bats are POS's. So glad we got released of that restriction.
