Sickle cell is extremely common in the black community, it changes the shape of red blood cells from a circle to a sickle.

When this happens, the blood can't carry oxygen efficiently, which is why it's a problem in sports. If sufficient oxygen isn't getting to the brain you can pass out or in the worst cases, go into a coma or die.

So the answer is, HUNH causes this/makes it worse? Please do educate us. Nobody has EVER heard of Sickle-Cell before. Thank goodness for Bert!! I'm sure the AMA has dispatched a team to Arky so Bert can enlighten them.

I hope that young mans parents show up at Arky practice so Bert can blame them for this as well. IT IS their fault after all that the kid was born to begin with!! Lets screen all expectant Mothers and inform them about the HUNH!! It will kill their babies!+

1 out of 400 is "extremely common"???

In the USA, where there is no endemic malaria, the prevalence of sickle-cell anaemia among blacks is lower (about 0.25%) than in West Africa (about 4.0%) and is falling.
