Didn't your defense just lose almost the entire secondary and a first round DE? How exactly will they be better?

They'll be much worse on defense this year. And they're in 4th place in recruiting in the SEC west. Don't see them getting much better.

Entire secondary? Also, the draft hasn't occurred, and AU returns an All-SEC end. Jake Holland is gone, and 2 preseason starters that did not play due to injury before the first game return. AU was not playing full strength at D last year.

We lose 1 corner and 2 backup safeties that were forced into play due to injury. We Josh Holsey back from injury, who is arguably the most talented DB we have. 2 of the starters - Mincy and Whitehead are Sr's with 2 and 3 years of starting time, respectively. Sure Davis will be a big loss, but I think the younger guys we've got are probably more talented than he was.

We'll have Frost and McKinzey as our starting LB's, which is light years better than having Jake Holland on the field. Holland only played because he knew the defense better than any other LB. I have to imagine in year 2, the rest of the LB's will be caught up.

We also get Justin Garrett back from injury at Star. He would have been the starter if not for nagging injuries that kept him out. He and Therezie will make a great 2 deep for that position.

Our DL is very deep. We bring in some solid juco talent that will be able to step in right away and get a 5th year Sr DT back, in Jeff Whitaker. While he hasn't done much in his career, he'll add some good depth and be a big time leader in the locker room. We'll also have 3 of the best DL in the country from the 2013 class coming into their second year - Lawson, Adams and Daniel, to go along with several upper classmen.

You have to remember that last year we were basically forced to move a DE(Eguae) inside to DT and had him playing there due to depth issues at about 275 lbs. We'll be able to rotate at least 6 capable DT's this year. We'll need some DE's to step up outside of Lawson, Daniel and Owens, but we've got some guys that I think can step up well enough.

And with any offense or defense moving into a new scheme, the biggest improvements always happen in year 2.
