I was out of town working in Chattanooga. I wanted Saban over anyone alive. I was devastated when he was saying he would not be our head coach. I still had a sliver of hope because I knew the Dolphins future was very bleak. They didn't have any good young players and no QB. The coaching search was tough to swallow when working with all the UT and UGA fans. No one seemed to be chomping at the bit to be our coach. All the dark years and numerous coaching changes had taken their toll. However, coach Moore had done a great job improving facilities around campus and I knew the fan base was hungry. We had to go crazy with the $ but we got the guy that I wanted. It was fun to go to work and see the fear in the UT fans' eyes.

i worked in chattanooga also at that time. however, most of the guys i worked with were very curious as to who we would get. they knew what the right coach meant. so i didnt have to take much grief. i do remember it being said that steve o spurrier was coming, and i was happy. but the whole richrod thing was heartbreaking.

I remember the Sunday night that it broke that Shula was being fired. Mike Raita from ABC33/40 broke in at 11:30 with Breaking News. I jumped out of bed and broke the story on al.com forums..they fought with me for 30 minutes until BOL put out the article confirming

I was a senior in high school. I remember the day in early December when the Miami Herald reported that Saban was getting $50 million over 8 years. Later that day, he made the "I'm not going to be the Alabama coach" comment. I believe that was the same day that Rich Rod changed his mind.

I remember being in school and huddling around the computers for updates. Paul Johnson. Jim Grobe. Bob Stoops. Spurrier is playing golf at North River. Rich Rod is on his way, but he changed his mind.

I never want to experience another search like it, but I look back and laugh at the insanity that came in December of 2006.
