Keep seeing people talking about getting warnings from administrators... where would this show up? email?

I think so (on e-mail) but you don't need to worry about it. The people who do are a select few. "Select" is probably a poor choice of words.

PMs from admins usually appear at the top of the page in a white field when you next login to your Rant account. Can't miss it.
They usually don't send many, though. My entire time here, I've only ever received two (none were negative). They'll email you if they have your address, but most of the time they don't.
