or is he the greatest voice of the silent majority ever?

https://espn.go.com/nfl/draft2014/story/_/id/10439397/father-michael-sam-struggling-news-son-gay

quote:

While Michael Sam has mostly received an outpouring of support since announcing that he is gay, his father is struggling with the news, according to a published report.

quote:

Sam's father took the news hard. He said he was eating at a Denny's restaurant but had to leave after receiving the text.

quote:

"I couldn't eat no more, so I went to Applebee's to have drinks," Sam Sr. told the newspaper.

quote:

"I don't want my grandkids raised in that kind of environment."

quote:

On Sunday, the defensive end told ESPN that his parents, who are no longer together, took the news well, which contradicts the comments from his father to The Times.

quote:

"I'm closer to my friends than I am to my family," Sam told the newspaper.

doesn't want his grandkids raised in that environment, prefers them being raised by parents who are in and out of jail.

"So I went to Applebees"

I find that hilarious for some reason.

That really sucks. But the man has his views. He shouldn't be criticized for them.

Wouldnt be the first time a parent, especially a father, had a very hard time with the news that his son is homosexual. Hopefully he will come to accept it and remember the kid is still his son.

I also wouldnt be at all surprised if he isnt very embarrassed. Who would like to find out that kind of news at the same time as the whole world?

I think I could handle it intellectually, but the first time the son showed up with a male "significant other"... I'd have a very big problem to deal with personally.

I would just tell my son that I love him, and that I don't support the gay lifestyle, but he and his bf are still welcome at my house during Christmas or any other day. I would immediately head to church.

If finding out his son is gay sent him to binge drink at Applebee's, wonder where the news that he wont be having grandkids send him

That's not as ignorant as assuming somebody is poor, drunk, or stupid for being upset that his son is gay.

The biggest news out of this is someone actually goes to fricking Applebees to get drunk.

Missouri people do y'all really have no better drinking establishments anywhere?

this is starting to sound like a cheesy Bravo reality show where advertisers slip in promos in unsuspecting ways

Says the man who lost one son to murder, another to disappearing, and whose only two surviving boys besides Michael Sam, grew up to be career criminals.

I don't think Pops should be giving anyone advice about how to raise kids or grandkids.
