Good read. Appreciate it again. I guess as always, we just gotta play the games, but heading into the season a couple of thoughts I had that got me looking forward to first pitch.

I could be way wrong because I didn't go back and look at it, but I got the general sense last year that the team, particularly the bats, actually did a bit better after we got into conference play. Hopefully that can carry to the start of this season.

I know we lose a lot in Rob Z but it seems to me that there is more competition/experience for innings than there was last year. Again, didn't go back and look at it, but with Anderson healthy and another year's experience for Graves, Miles, Rash, James Steele and others, I have a good feeling about the pitching this year.

The other big thing that one would think is completely within our control is the defense. Didn't go back and look at stats, but my impression last year was that the fielding was pretty awful and defense is one thing that should be correctable at this level. If they can fix that, it will go a long way to making the pitching staff even that much better.

The offensive numbers were very similar between the overall season and the SEC season:

Overall/ SEC
BA .245 / .247
HR 12 / 15
SLG% .322 / .351
OB% .338 / .336

There was a spurt in power during SEC games, but a lot of that is, I think, attributable to timing, that the offense started getting going finally in April and May, which is when the SEC schedule was.
