One of the favorite running myths on this board is the absolute raiding of the state of GA that other SEC and ACC schools pull off while UGA sits on the sideline with empty pockets. No matter how untrue it may be or how much of a crapshoot recruiting may be (when ranking the #10 player in the state v #20...not #1 v #50), this myth is marched out there by Bama, USCe, UF, FSU, AU, and UT fans.

Here's the current (4/25) top 15 in GA, who does your team end up with? Who ends up where?

(1) DT Trenton Thompson
(2) OT Mitch Hyatt -- Clemson commit, legacy
(3) ATH Terry Godwin -- UGA commit
(4) OT Chuma Edoga -- USC commit
(5) DE Mekhi Brown -- Bama commit
(6) WR Preston Williams -- UT commit
(7) RB Taj Griffin -- Oregon commit
(8) S Rashad Roundtree
(9) DE/OLB Natrez Patrick
(10)ILB Roquan Smith
(11)DT Jonathan Ledbetter -- Bama commit
(12)RB Eric Swinney
(13)DE Chauncey Rivers -- UGA commit
(14)DE Arden Key
(15)DE Austin Bryant

My 2/10 prediction: I say UGA lands Thompson, Godwin, Patrick, Edoga, Smith, Walker, Roundtree, and one more guy. Either one of the RBs (we won't be pursuing but one in this class and we're already stacked) or we flip Brown/Ledbetter.

Just missed the cut:

(16) OLB Adonis Thomas
(17) DE D'Andre Walker
(18) S Jordan Colbert
(19) QB Lorenzo Nunez
(20) OG Change Warmack -- Bama Commit, legacy

These players have been in the top 20 at some point this year:

(21) WR Christian Owens -- UGA Commit
(22) ATH Arrington Farrar -- Stanford Commit

ETA: Currently I would say these guys are not being pursued or not legit possibilities for UGA for various reasons:

Hyatt - legacy

Swinney - we currently have him lower on our board than others

Key - we'll see what Pruitt does as far as recruiting him, but seems like a 4-3 guy

Nunez - not a scheme fit and we may not take a QB

***Preston Williams - we'll see how his cycle plays out. if we pursue him and he sticks with UT, I'd consider him a loss. if we don't, I wouldn't.

4/25 Edit: Not a lot of commits to this list since I last updated, but it is clear at this point that UGA is pursuing Preston Williams and I haven't heard a single thing about UGA and Swinney. I'm guessing Edoga's commitment is still pretty much wide open. A guy who has been quoted as saying that he intentionally trolls reporters is not the type guy I would expect to maintain a commitment to a school across the entire country for a 10 month period. Pretty much all of the guys I listed that I expected UGA to get are still in play. It also seems as if we are indeed pursuing Arden Key to some extent.

I thought I read Preston Williams is going to shoot up rankings? Or maybe that was just UT fans, but I know I read that somewhere.

I am curious about Preston because while he does show a UGA offer, it doesn't seem like they are really pursuing him that hard (which being committed, he could have told everyone to back off), but isn't he also a Bama legacy? They didn't seem to go that hard after him either. It is a bit strange given the talent.

I think the RB that UGA ends up taking in this class will be Ty'son Williams or possibly Swinney, although he also like the Barn.

To be honest, while I think UGA does try to go after the top guys instate that fit with the scheme, I am not sure they make it a point as long as the program can still pull in better or as good of prospects from OOS.

FYI: A. Farrar is committed to Stanford I believe

Have there been any recent updates on Swinney?

If UGA can nab 6 of the top 8, they will probably be Top 3, top 5 for sure. Georgia is loaded from the looks of the rankings.

Thanks for posting. Where are Griffin and Edogba high on?

Can't believe Harrison HS has the top QB in the state of GA. Is UGA interested?

Keeping Brwon seems like its going to be tough, but he keeps saying he is firm.

UGA is in really, really good shape in the State next year.

I honestly believe Trent, Taj Griffin, Natrez, Roquan, Chuma, DeAndre Walker and Roundtree all stay home. I haven't felt this good about in-state players since Richt’s arrival. It sounds cheesy, but the Pruitt effect is real.

WR Preston Williams -- UT commit...something is off about this kid, doubt he stays this highly ranked

Stud. We’re too late on this one. UT has recruited the WR position exceptionally well the last 5 years. Hopefully, he’ll see the depth and rethink his decision, but I doubt it.

Well, that is no myth (at least not in recent years, IMO)...

Going by 247Sports composite ratings: In 2014, of the 23 players rated a 4 star or higher, Georgia only landed 6 of them. In 2013, of the 25 players rated a 4 star of higher, Georgia only landed 8 of them (only 2 of the top 10). In 2012, of the 28 players rated a 4 star or higher, Georgia landed 6 of them.

Maybe Georgia didn't recruit a lot of those kids because they didn't fit their system in some way (attitude, scheme, etc), but they let a ton of talent out of the state every year. Maybe we assume Georgia should land more top rated prospects because they have so many in the vicinity. I don't know, but it does seem that Georgia gets raided every year.

They might change the perception this year, who knows?

MenloDawg, I actually looked at the past rankings for this and here is what I found. According to Rivals.com, since 2007 here is how the state of Georgia finished.
2007 - 2 5 star and 15 4 star recruits from the State of Georgia were in the Rivals 250. Out of those 17 recruits, Georgia signed 4 of them. Neither of the 5 stars went to Georiga, those 2 5 stars - Eric Berry and Cam Newton.
2008 - 2 5 star and 16 4 star recruits from the State of Georgia were in the Rivals250. Out of these 18, Georgia signed 10 of them including 1 of the 5 star.
2009 - 2 5 star and 12 4 star recruits from the State of Georgia were in the Rivals250. Out of those 16, Georgia signed 5 of them, including 1 of the 5 star.
2010 - 2 5 star and 19 4 star recruits from the State of Georgia were in the Rivals250. Out of those 21, Georgia signed 5 of them, neither of the 5 star.
2011 - 3 5 star and 13 4 star recruits from the STate of Georgia were in the Rivals250. Out of those 16, Georgia signed 8, including 2 of the 5 star.
2012 - 1 5 star and 17 4 star recruits from the State of Georgia were in the Rivals250. Out of those 18, 4 were signed by Georgia, including the 1 5 star.
2013 - 4 5 star and 12 4 star recruits from the State of Georgia were in the Rivals 250. Out of those 16, Georgia signed 4, including 0 5 star.
2014 - 2 5 star and 18 4 star recruits from the State of Georgia were in the Rivals250. Out of those 20, 5 were signed by Georgia, including 0 5 star.

So to recap, the State of Georgia has produced 18 5 star recruits and a total of 242 prospects out of the State of Georgia that were in the Rivals250. I would consider those top prospects. Out of those 242 recruits, Georgia signed 45 of them. That means, Georgia signed 18.59% of the top recruits in the State of Georgia since 2007. So, OP, why would other schools not think that Georgia has a little problem keeping the best recruits in state when they only sign 18% of the top recruits? I mean, this isn't a myth, it is a truth. It might be hard to see, but it is definitely the truth of Georgia right now.

It's not a myth, brah.

2010-2014 (five classes)
12 five-stars - 3 UGA signees (25%)
94 four-stars - 29 UGA signees (31%)

I think we get Nick Wilson in the end. I'm not sure how Swinney is with other schools but our coaches seem to feel early confidence with him. I would be more than happy pulling those two if we can have a good year in Memphis and in-state considering they're more stacked than usual.

Arden Key was committed to USC but decommitted with Wesley Green under pressure from their head coach (UGA homer)

Key is changing highschools for his senior year iirc so I expect him to recommit like Green did.

Edited and bumped this. Will probably do so every month or two until things start really heating up or when there are significant changes in the rankings.

As it stands now, out of the Top 15:

2 UGA
2 Bama
1 Clemson
1 USC
1 UT
1 Oregon

The next tier:

1 UGA
1 Bama
1 Stanford

Total:

3 UGA
3 Bama -- Warmack was a legacy, hopefully we can flip Ledbetter (lots of smoke there)
1 Clemson -- Hyatt was a Clemson legacy
1 USC -- hopefully we can flip Edoga
1 UT -- a Williams for McGraw trade isn't the worst thing
1 Oregon -- we were never getting Griffin, we knew that when we inked Chubb/Michel last year
1 Stanford -- don't believe we showed any interest in Farrar, somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
