The people who cannot afford to are often the people who frequent these places, then get taxpayer subsidies for thier poor lifestyle choices.

Debt at an all time high, 25 year olds living at hone, low savings, this will all come crashing down soon. Not sure why you are so proud of these places? Burn me all down IMO.

I agree ...but that has everything to do with those people's choices, not the places. Legislating morality only makes it illegal, it doesn't change peoples morals. If people want to gamble, they're going to find some place, some way to do it.

If we're going to do that, start with the Federal Reserve. Its very existence depends upon debt.

I am unsympathetic to the 40yr+ crowd who dominates these casino's when they were educated in the same Arkansas public school system (by tax payers) as myself and then decided to make their own personal choices on how to spend their money.

Those same people you're speaking about know the odds and how to play the games very well. They are not ignorant to the odds but like the action. We all have our vices. If a 70yr lady wants to place bets and likes the action more power to her. As for the government assistance realm, feel free to vote for people to change the system.

Arkansas was losing millions to Missouri on their lottery and now we are keeping the money in the state and sending more kids to college. If the 40yr+ crowd wants to give their money away I want them to do it in Arkansas, not Oklahoma, Mississippi or Missouri. Those individuals have already long been educated by the same system.

The smart ones will be able to buy cheap when it all comes crashing down and it will. Education/psychology is to blame and nothing else. Guess who funds and sets the guidelines for the subpar education system we have in place? (does anyone know why the flag sometimes doesn't work and reads :isa:?)

I am not trying to get political. I am all for helping our state keep dollars home while crushing the competitive market of neighboring states, to which all have gambling. Furthermore, creating jobs.

Arkansas is finally fencing off the the out flux of 100's of millions of dollars that formerly went to neighboring states economies.

I am not really 'anti-casino', in fact I have spent a few dollars a them and used to throw a few bucks at the horses at Oaklawn. Lottery gets high enough and I'll by %20 worth of numbers...

But I really saw the sad side as I was leaving a casino in Greenville, MS that I had stopped at as I left town on a business call.

As I was walking down the 'gangplank' walkway, an elderly African American couple were walking in, clutching what was obviously their social security check, which they were going to cash - and you could see it in their eyes: This time they were going to hit it big. Most likely left there with much less than they went in with.
