At that point in time, Auburn had not yet figured out they were a good football team. That changed quickly after the LSU game.

yup...Nick Marshall knew like 30% of the offense at that point

Auburn had yet to discover they were a good team. Auburn's coaches had yet to figure out how special of a running game this team could have. If this game was played in November Auburn would have run the ball more often.

Also, LSU is a good team and very difficult to beat especially in Tiger Stadium at night.
